Before making Chardi Kala, he had been keenly observing the farmers protest in Delhi and tried to make sense of the state apathy in the face of such a huge movement. He found it dubious when permission was given for a farmers’ tractor parade on Republic Day 2021 and decided to shoot the day’s proceedings at Singhu border, one of the main campsites of the protest.

With the help of a few friends, a small crew got together and  captured the events as they unfolded on 26th January, 2021. Through this film they try to showcase the pitfalls of a blind faith in democracy.

The current Government has failed to fulfil the farmers demand of minimum wages for their hard work. This protest isstill going on and will go on until their valid demands get fulfil. I hope that this documentary spread awareness and support their cause.

It was also the unity, josh, humility, and cooperation of the farmers amongst each other which movedit. In a span of 2 days, I met and interviewed numerous people who spoke about the harsh realities of the current situation inour country. I was fortunate and humbled to give a voice to them and be a part of their journey. Overall, the experience was very impactful for me. It has changed how I perceived documentary filming and I cannot wait to be a part of another documentary project.

i love to do beatboxing

it was my privilege to be associated with this film where the farmer of the whole country had come on the road, at that time suddenly I came to know that my friend Chetan ji is going to shoot some documentary there. Suddenly I called him and said that I am also coming and he also said yes when we reached the Singhu border, it was found that in the crowd of millions of farmers, children and women, all had gathered, just for the safety of their fields , for the future . And I also saw and felt that there is a fear in myself, how will the work be done, the police was guarded everywhere, the sound of the tractor, some slogans and food pandals meant the things needed to stay there for a long time we reached there and we started shooting and the next day as I wake up I saw all the farmers have left for the rallies and there was a silence because now there are some children and women and  Some old people were left there in the pandals and were just wondering what would happen now as soon as we heard in the news that  The farmers have......

I was constantly not understanding what to do, then everyone decided that what will happen now will be seen, decided that we stay here for night and the faces of the farmers who returned amidst the fog of the night were withered and some people even at night . I was thinking that I don't know what will happen tomorrow and  soon it was morning and we also left for our tents and after reaching home only one thing came in my mind that I am really great in the country where  I am not shy to crush my own people as an leader, this is the only experience in my life that I can never forget.

Working with Chetan has always been an enriching exerience. This is my second poster for him after Masa ka Pasa. For Charhdi Kala poster, the idea was to convey the core philosophy of the Farmer’s movement with a minimalist approach. The two prominent visual elements from the movement that gained a lot of media attention were the tractor rally and the barricading nails on the road. So, they made the core design element for the poster. Chetan suggested the Gurumukhi Title fonts and the flying eagle. A fun collaboration like always.
